Inspired by the urban landscape, Adam Ambro’s work looks to find beauty in less than obvious places. Beginning with a recycled canvas of newpaper, layers of pen, marker and whatever else happens to be within arm’s reach are added. The end result is a highly textured interpretation of some of the world’s most iconic adventuremobiles.
Having grown up in Michigan in a three-bedroom house with a five-car garage, it’s only natural that Adam’s eye gravitates towards the auto industry for inspiration – for both the subjects and the classified ads that served as the original canvases. With true classified ads becoming scarce, as much thought is now put into composing the newsprint canvas as the artwork itself. Each canvas is uniquely curated towards the adventure-based subjects leaving much to be discovered beyond the details of the drawing.
Based in Golden, Colorado, Adam is a full-time architect and part-time artist. He was named a 2013 Cherry Creek Arts Festival Emerging Artist and honored in the 2D category at the 2015 Golden Fine Arts Festival. Professionally, Adam was recognized as the 2013 AIA Denver Young Architect of the Year and a 2014 Engineering News Record Mountain States top 20 under 40 professional.
