Just like the Vespa scooter, the Arco lamp, and the Campari bottle, FIAT 500 Cinquecento is among the eternal Italian design icons. It is unmistakably Italian and was aimed to provide compact motorization for everyone. And the Cinquecento delivered just like the VW Beetle and Citroen 2CV. That is why we are more than happy to share with you this beautiful FIAT 500 Cinquecento photo art print.
With length just below 3 meters, the original 500 was designed as a city car capable of being driven on the narrow Italian streets, some of them planned during the Medieval times. Tiny 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing just 13 horsepower motivated the 500 Cinquecento. The max speed was measured to 85 km/h (53 mph) which today are definitely not enough for a highway cruising. Back then, Europeans loved this tiny Italian vehicle for its reliability and decent fuel economy. What more you might ask for at the end of 50`s when the production of Nuova 500 started?

Almost 4 million 500 Cinquecentos were built for its production lifespan of 18 years. It was replaced by FIAT 600 which proved quite successful too. Italians ensured sporty version, created by Carlo Abarth. It was called FIAT 595 SS and impressed with slightly larger engine displacement, good enough for 32 hp. The compact shell was retained with no changes, except the badges.
When the retro wave hit the automotive industry, FIAT managers remembered the emotional attachment and the design influence of the 500 Cinquecento so they hit the market with a modern reincarnation. It was an immediate success no doubt fueled by an iconic Italian design.
