Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic fine car art by Terry Smith.

Carefully produced with our giclée process to maximize color accuracy and resolution. At Simply Petrol, we use the highest-quality Hahnemühle fine art paper (315 gsm) with delicate texture and acid-free surface.

Giclée (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed to saturate the fibers of the watercolor paper, resulting in pure, rich color and remarkable detail.

It was engineered as an art. It was sculpted like an art. It is famed as pure #FineCarArt. Bugatti Type 57S Atlantic is among most expensive cars existing now and it worth any penny. That’s why we are more than happy to share with you this beautiful Bugatti Type 57S poster in the exceptional form of Atlantic coupe.

Only four were built, three of them are preserved up to date. One of them is the centerpiece of the connoisseur automotive collection of Ralph Lauren and you know, this man has a style. Two of them, including Ralph`s black Atlantic, won the prestige Concourse de Elegance held annually at Pebble Beach, California.

Bugatti Type 57 was a glorious machine created by Jean Bugatti, the son of Ettore Bugatti, the founder of the iconic French brand. It relied on inline 8-cylinder engine and chassis with almost independent suspension. It was fast, elegant and it won 24 Hours of Le Mans twice. Unfortunately, Jean was killed while testing his Type 57G racer.

The Atlantic coupes are the most acclaimed incarnations of this epic machine. Their bodies were an in-house job of Bugatti. Back in the days, top-level automotive manufacturers let coachbuilders make their best on top of a bare chassis. Bugatti Type 57S Atlantic is an evolution of the Aerolithe concept car presented in 1935. It used lightweight magnesium alloy and duralumin for its bodywork in order to achieve lightness. This is why the body was brought together with external riveting creating the signature seam.

Old school automotive illustrator and designer Terry Smith beautifully captured the spirit of Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic and turned it into beautiful poster print emitting past century automotive Art Deco as nothing before.

Now you can own this beautiful Bugatti Type 57S poster print created by Terry Smith and carefully issued by Simply Petrol.

Born and raised in Detroit, Terry Smith has been a part of the Commercial Art Scene since 1953. Back then it was Automotive Illustration with art board, Windsor Newton Designers’ watercolors, paint brushes and airbrushes instead of Photography and Computer Graphics. Throughout the late sixties and early seventies he was painting car illustrations for catalogs and national ads for the big three automotive companies.

In 1972 I met and got involved with Roger Penske and his Indy Car and Can Am racing programs. That venture had me designing color schemes for Penske sponsored race cars during the Mark Donahue and Peter Revson era. I guess my claim to fame at that time was designing the color schemes for the white L&M Porsche 917-10 and blue Sunoco 917-30 Can Am cars that Donahue and George Follmer raced in the early seventies.

In 1987 Terry teamed up with his son and started using a Macintosh computer when Desktop Publishing was in it’s infancy.  He put aside his paint and paintbrushes and started the long journey into the world of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Page Maker.

From 1987 until 2005 Terry Smith was designing brochures, logos, training manuals and line drawings. However, he had never thought of or even tried doingfull-colorr car illustrations on the computer. It wasn’t until after he retired and his son brought his old computer to him in 2010, that Terry Smith thought about giving car illustration a try on the computer.

At Simply Petrol we are extremely happy to give you access to the #FineCarArt of Terry Smith.
