This poster pays tribute to Lancia Stratos HF - the '70s ultimate rally beast in a compact form. In the Alitalia livery, this Lancia Tipo 829 is nothing but phenomenal.

The Stratos is the first car that Bertone designs for Lancia. It is also the first-ever car designed and built for rally purposes. It is an interesting fact that Stratos is Ferrari-powered. In fact, Enzo Ferrari tries to sabotage the project and refuses to deliver the already contracted Ferrari Dino 500 V6 engines. Il Commendatore sees Lancia Stratos as a fierce competitor to his own Dino V6. He sends the promised engines to Lancia after the production of Dino ends.

Lancia Stratos Alitalia WRC

Lancia Stratos in Alitalia livery is pure beauty

Lancia Stratos is pretty successful in rallying with a lot of victories in the '70s and the early '80s. Its engine is able to produce 190 hp, giving the road car a 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 232. This is really good performance for a '70s road-going car weighing just 900 kilograms.

The epic success of Lancia Stratos is closely related to the racing career of Sandro Munari. When the Italian pilot sits behind the wheel of Stratos, he already has titles from Targa Florio and Monte Carlo Rally. The incredible Lancia beautifully complements his racing skills and he enjoys a total of seven WRC victories and one Championship title. After that, he leaves Lancia Stratos in favour of FIAT 131 Abarth.

The racer in Alitalia livery continues its triumphant competition march. The car scores 18 WRC victories in total. The last one is in 1981 at Tour de Corse Automobile – five years after FIAT discredits Lancia Stratos as their main rally contender.
