Group B rallying creates epic cars like Lancia 037 and Lancia Delta S4. But the Italians have even more to offer. Enzo Ferrari attacks the Group B track with a contender based on the extremely beautiful 308 GTB. The tragic crash with Henri Toivonen and the cancellation of the Group B race series leaves all 272 examples of Ferrari 288 GTO untouched. The car is beautiful and extreme but artist Dziugas Valancauscas presents it as smooth as silk in his Ferrari 288 GTO art print.
A sleek Ferrari 288 GTO art
Leonardo Fioravanti creates this car for Pininfarina. Ferrari 308 GTB/GTS heavily influences it both aesthetically and technically. The car receives the same V8 engine but it has twin turbochargers that stimulate it in the GTO guise. To make sure there is enough space for them, Ferrari mounts the 288 GTO engine longitudinally.
This solution pays off with an engine capable of 400 hp, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5 seconds. Ferrari claims top speed of 189 mph or 304 km/h. This is the first street-legal car that passes the 300 km/h barrier.
