With its rugged body, Toyota FJ40 is not the usual poster queen. But genuine car art is not only about the shiny red Italian beauties but also about significant machines that have a real impact on the automotive culture.
Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser
Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser
The story of FJ40 Land Cruiser dates back to WWII when the Imperial Japanese Army finds an old Willis Jeep. They ship it to Japan and ask Toyota management to reverse engineer the car and improve it as much as possible. Toyota completes the commission successfully and sells it as a 4x4 vehicle after the war. Its name is J20.
This is how the notorious Land Cruiser is born. Just like its main competitors Land Rover and Jeep, it is based on the technical heritage of WWII.
FJ40 is the car that establishes Toyota as a global brand. With its relatively compact size and trustworthy engine, Land Cruisers can successfully make it almost anywhere.
Actually, FJ40 is called J40. It is famous as FJ because of the F engine it usually has. It is another piece of indestructible engineering by Toyota with a usual lifespan of 300 000 miles / 480 000 km. The inline six-cylinder petrol engine is reputable with its torque at low rpm which makes it just perfect for off-roading. It is also capable of moving military and fire trucks and is used in Crown-based Japanese police cars.
Adam Ambro
Inspired by the urban landscape, Adam Ambro’s work looks to find beauty in less than obvious places. Beginning with a recycled canvas of newspaper, layers of pen, marker and whatever else happens to be within arm’s reach are added. The end result is a highly textured interpretation of some of the world’s most iconic adventure mobiles.
Having grown up in Michigan in a three-bedroom house with a five-car garage, it’s only natural that Adam’s eye gravitates towards the auto industry for inspiration – for both the subjects and the classified ads that served as the original canvases. With true classified ads becoming scarce, as much thought is now put into composing the newsprint canvas as the artwork itself. Each canvas is uniquely curated towards the adventure-based subjects leaving much to be discovered beyond the details of the drawing. Based in Golden, Colorado,
Adam is a full-time architect and part-time artist. He was named a 2013 Cherry Creek Arts Festival Emerging Artist and honored in the 2D category at the 2015 Golden Fine Arts Festival. Professionally, Adam was recognized as the 2013 AIA Denver Young Architect of the Year and a 2014 Engineering News Record Mountain States top 20 under 40 professional.
