This hippie Porsche 917 has the psychedelic livery that turns the car into a piece of art. The author of the purple, green and white swirling colour combination is Anatole Lapin. He is the brand new chief designer at Porsche. Lapin receives the task to create colour schemes for the Martini Racing team which just purchased Porsche 917. Instead of continuing the tradition with the classic Martini-Rosso pattern, Lapin suggests a combination of purple, matt fluorescent green and white.

Тhe Porsche 917 art project is finalised just a week before the start of 24 Hours Le Mans in 1970. The result is 1500 empty spray cans and a brand new hippie livery for the brand. Hans-Dieter Dechent from Martini Racing recalls that no one could feel their index fingers because of the constant spraying.

The hippie Porsche 917 is an instant success. Everybody loves it except Ferdinand Piech, the business person behind the 917 project. He believes a racing car should be white.

Celebrate the fine car art hippie version of Porsche 917 with this colourful art print by Peter Dials. We at Simply Petrol believe that cars and art have a lot in common and each of our car art prints is unique.
