Porsche 917 #23 by Porsche Team Salzburg is the first-ever 917 to win the epic Le Mans competition. The glorious new beginning inspires Peter Dials for this Porsche 917 Salzburg poster.

In 1970 the situation before Le Mans is a game of nerves. After the unimpressive past season, Porsche management is decided to win. Seventeen Porsche 917s participate in the competition but only two of them survive the harsh weather conditions and aggressive battling. Porsche takes the first and second position.

The 1970 winner is the red and white Porsche 917 with Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood behind the wheel. They lay the foundations for Porsche participation at Le Mans.

Enzo Ferrari foresees Porsche's rising and does his best to put a spoke in their wheel. He sells a part of his shares at Ferrari to Ford and collects money for the development of Ferrari 512. In order to populate the Le Mans with his new car, Il Commendatore offers his Ferrari racer to private teams at an extremely low price. Unfortunately, Ferrari's strategic plans fail so they leave 24 Hours of Le Mans and join the F1 competition.
