The Porsche 917 in Gulf livery stands as the ultimate poster car, etching its name into racing history with unrivaled speed and reliability. Securing Porsche's first overall victory at Le Mans in 1970, this success is triumphantly repeated in 1971. The Porsche 917 in Gulf livery becomes an icon, taking center stage in the legendary Le Mans movie. While some may perceive the film as mundane, for petrolheads, it is an absolute masterpiece.

Porsche 917 at 1970 24h of Le Mans

Behind the development of the Porsche 917 is Ferdinand Piëch, the grandson of Ferdinand Porsche, whose strategic vision seizes an opportunity presented by a sudden regulation change. The CSI reduces the minimum production for sports car homologation from 50 to 25 vehicles, prompting Piëch to gain approval for a new sports prototype designed to conquer Le Mans. In a remarkable feat, Porsche's team engineers, designs, and produces the groundbreaking 917 in just ten months. The unique flat 12-cylinder air-cooled engine propels the Porsche 917 to the pinnacle of motorsports rankings, proving that Piëch's daring risk pays off handsomely.

The initial tests of the 917 reveal instability at high speeds, prompting crucial adjustments to the car's tail. Striking the delicate balance between low drag coefficient and high downforce for the Mulsanne straight, the iconic long-tail and short-tail Porsches are born. Ankur Singh's art print captures the allure of this risk-laden journey, where innovation and determination propel the Porsche 917 to Le Mans glory in the distinctive Gulf livery.
