The focus of this Alfa Romeo art print is one of the most distinguished shapes in the automotive world. This Osso di Seppia (Italian for cuttlebone) car is a pure legend with its elegant curves and proven chassis. It also makes a fabulous appearance in the movie The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman behind the wheel.

Osso di Seppia is pure Alfa Romeo art

This Alfa Romeo Spider is the very last project of Batista Pininfarina. The long tail, the curved sides, and the rising exhaust pipe are the trademark elements of the car. It is the motoring equivalent of Dolce Vita, symbolizing the beautiful, careless and sweet living in Southern Europe during the '60s.

Alfa Romeo Spider Duetto Osso Di Seppia by the sea

Although it cannot brag with exceptional engine power or speed, the Spider in its first Osso di Seppia edition is an eternal car model. Put the peppy 4-cylinder engine in the equation and you have one of the most joyful Italian cars.

It is light, simple, beautiful and (almost) reliable. Believe it or not, when the automotive press sees the car, the journalists don't approve of its design. They label the Alfa Romeo Spider as "gimmicky" and "poured from a jelly mould". The good news is that time erases injustice and the story of this car is the evidence for that.

Joel Clark's art depicts the car in its original, late '60s condition with basic wheels coming right from the Giulia sedan. They have shiny chromed hubcaps so you do not get distracted by the rear end of the car. It's a long rear boot sloped to a particular point just like the front where the notorious Alfa Romeo twin-cam engine is. With dual Weber carburettors or with SPICA mechanical injection, this 4-cylinder engineering magic produces between 88 and 116 hp, depending on the volume of its cylinders.

Joel Clark

His love of Motorsport, and anything-on-wheels, stretches back to childhood and growing up near to Silverstone. Joel`s father would take him to vintage race meets throughout the 80's, resulting in his obsession with cars and bikes Upon leaving school, Joel took a job designing and making vinyl stickers for race teams, with a Sign maker based at the circuit. This is where he learnt the skill of ‘hand-cutting’ vinyl.

However Joel soon decided to go to Art College and 6 years later, left to pursue a career as a Creative in Advertising - working in some of the world’s biggest agencies. Since leaving Advertising in 2014, he has now gone full-circle and returned to the unique skill Joel learnt back at Silverstone in 1990.

Now he hands cut the vinyl to create artworks of cars. This use of vinyl gives Joel`s original pieces a totally unique finish to that of the actual car he is depicting. And when applied to helmets and body-panels, the results turn real objects into surreal pop art sculptures. Up to date, Joel Clark is the only artist using hand cut vinyl as a medium – therefore his artworks are a truly unique and original offering.
